Wearable Technology to Take Center Stage at the Taiwan Show

This year’s largest technology trade show in Asia kicks off on Tuesday with wearable technology and smart living expected to dominate. We expect gadgets that can do anything, from identifying buglers to analyzing the state of the mind.

The event will host 1,700 exhibitors from Taiwan and around the world and it will be held in the capital Taipei, Computex. There are a lot of PC and component manufacturers in Taiwan, that’s why Computex has been traditionally a very PC-focused show.

The event will take 5 days and is expected to attract more than 130,000 visitors from all over the world. It will provide an opportunity for participants to meet the leading computer technologists and also give them an unprecedented opportunity to connect with the most recent and advanced technologies and solutions that are shaping the future of computing technology.

Held in Taiwan

David Liu of the Taipei Computer Association said that wearable technology and smart living remain the focus of the show, but visitors will find more mature products this year. For example, in the case of home security, the latest products use infrared sensors and an app to come up with a total solution that helps users to receive images of those who intrude in their homes.

Wearables such as smartwatches, glasses and fabrics will have a dedicated area and we expect to see devices that can measure stress levels caused by work through the analysis of “mind waves”.

The organizers said that 3D and mobile technology innovations will also be key areas in this year’s event. Computex continues to attract major players such as Ford, Microsoft and Intel, but the show comes at a time when Taiwan is struggling to maintain its tech edge in the face of the stiff competition from China.

Last year’s event attracted more that 1,500 exhibitors and more than 130,000 visitors. In the event, there were exhibits from the world’s leading technology brands. The event saw the launch of many products in the SmarTech area including 3D printing, wearables, security, and intelligent vehicle systems.

At the last year’s show, there was a zone dedicated to convertible tablets that were then trying to elbow laptops out of the market. There was also a section for mobile computing and another for ‘touch display’.

Standalone smart products had been on the show before, but tech firms are now trying to broaden their ambitions, so we expect to see more and more innovative ideas in this year’s show.
