Master & Dynamic Mh40 Review

Master & Dynamic Mh40 Review

Master & Dynamic has decided to go against most of the big competitors on the headphones market. In order to win this race they have chosen to implement elements of old devices making their brand new MH40 headphones look like a vintage device.

The device comes at a price of 399 American Dollars, which is quite expensive for a headphone. I may be a bit cheap, but I don’t really like to afford money above 300 bucks for a headphone. If you do a thorough search on the market, I’m quite sure that you will find a headphone that costs less than the Master & Dynamic MH40 and it is of the same quality.

No offense to the device, since I have only criticized the price of the headphones, not the other attributes. The device in general with its old-school look, comfort and great sound quality is really a great product to have on your shelf. However, as I have said before, if you check out the price of the device you may just walk away from the purchase. Maybe if Master & Dynamic would choose a more relevant price for the product more people (including me) would buy the device. As for now, there’s only one thing we can only do, wait for a huge price drop or a discount by a retailer. However, this will only come in the Christmas buying period, so we have to wait more than a half year for this to happen unfortunately.

The Design

The Design

I must say, the design of the Master & Dynamic MH40 looks very original and unique. It looks like one of the headphones that is used in a vintage sci-fi movie in the 1960s-1970s. The device really have a fascinating look. However, you don’t even know the materials that have been used for the headphones. Lambskin and cowhide are just one of the few premium materials that have been used in the making of the device. However, these two materials provide you that absolute comfort that you desire when listening to music. In this instance the price of the headphones could be understood, since a device that was made of such premium materials as cowhide and lambskin can afford to cost a lot.

It does not finish with that! In addition to lambskin and cowhide, Master & Dynamic has used stainless steel parts to toughen the device. With steel present, the MH40 really goes for the vintage look. Do you often see steel as part of the headphones manufactured by other companies? Not really, not at all to be honest. However, the Master & Dynamic MH40 wants to stay as unique on the market as the device can, so the company that has manufactured the gadget has done everything to reach this goal. Uniqueness on the market is always welcomed if not respected. Not just the critics like this attribute, but end users.

Trend

The Master & Dynamic MH40 could be of low quality components and may sound bad, people would still buy it for the look of it. However, this is not the case for the gadget, since it has been perfectly designed by high quality materials in order to ensure the comfort and the sound quality everyone desires.

However, let’s talk about trend and fashion a bit. When there’s a topic about this I always go with the iPhone and Apple example. I will write about this now. Do you remember the launch of the iPhone 4? The smartphone was beautiful and people that has bought they not purchased it for the hardware or because the device was so fast and reliable. No. Most of the people who have bought the item has purchased it for the Apple logo and the look of the iPhone.

I think that will be the case with the Master & Dynamic MH40 too. They will buy it anyways, people won’t care about the specifics of the device, just the look.

Verdict

I think Master & Dynamic has made an extremely good device. The MH40 looks amazing with its vintage style design. The only negative I can say about the product is the price, since the product costs 399 bucks.
