Welt stands for wellness belt. It is a smart health tracking belt designed by Samsung health care technology company to help you check on your weight. It is one of the five Samsung Creative lab (C-lab) projects to be launched on Kickstarter. Kickstarter is a platform that helps you to bring creative projects to life by funding them. It was first unveiled at to Consumers Electronic Show (CES) where the consumers had uncertainties whether it will make it beyond prototyping. It was then when the Samsung spinoff company launched it on Kickstarter for production funding.
Design
It is designed just as a normal belt with an additional feature of magnetic sensor enclosed in a metal box at the belt’s buckle. It has the capability to pair with your phone through the welt application. It gives you real-time information about your body expansion or contraction. With this, you are able to manage obesity and overeating habit.
The engineers designed it in a way that it uses an algorithm to tell the difference between food consumption and just drinking plenty of water. This is based on the fact that they account for the time taken to digest the food materials. They also give the user a room to input manually and modify the number of times you have overeaten.
Welt Application
It is an application that transforms data gathered by the welt smart belt into information. This allows you to understand your health status tracked by this device. It is compatible with iOS and Android version where information is synced from Bluetooth 4.1.
Welt’s health tracking technology is kept in a belt buckle. At this point is where you have a magnetic sensor. Information concerning your health is sent from the magnetic sensor to a welt application in your mobile. The smartphone welt application enables you to know the amount of caloric lost and distance traveled by displaying the information in real time graphs. You can set it to give you daily, weekly or monthly updates. It also enables you to set some goals concerning your activities and weight.
Battery life
A single charge will allow the battery to power your belt for about 20 days. The smart belt contains a port at the bottom of the buckle which allows you to charge it with a micro USB when the power is depleted. Thus it has an impressive battery life.

It tracks your waist size ranging from a circumference of 28 to 44 inches. Waist size changes depending on the intake of calories. It sends information concerning waist measurement to the welt application on your smartphone. By use of algorithms, it tells whether it is a weight gain, bloating or overeating. According to Consumers Electronic Show (CES) demos, it detected the changes when the wearer pushed their belly out. Thus, it can offer short-term service of monitoring variations in your belly when you eat. This enables you to monitor your eating habits and it also warms if you binge too often.

Styles wise, you can get a Classic, a Premium for fashion conscious people or a Casual welt smart belt. Buckles are of three different types that is square, hook or rounded. It also comes in a variety of colors including beige, light brown, orange, black, cobalt, morange, blue and burgundy. It has only two options for women i.e. light brown or beige belt.

The price will differ in different countries and it will range up to $179. There are now available to crowdfund on Kickstarter at a fair price of $69 to $99.The smart belts are also expected to ship in around January 2017.
